A significant proportion of the production of the multi-sector group Neven consists of combined heat and power generation, the distribution of the world’s cleanest domestic water, and the treatment of waste water and stormwater.
Lapland’s fragile natural environment is something we hold dear. In the Arctic region, we must operate in a particularly sustainable manner, and the circular economy strongly guides our production. Rather than producing waste, we aim to make the most of the by-products generated by our production processes.
The Suosiola power station generates electricity and heat using local fuels: wood and peat. The ash produced from burning these fuels is put to good use by being granulated into a raw material for earthworks. Read more about Suosiola’s operations here.
We also source clean domestic water from nature – from groundwater. It is pumped from deep underground and is generally supplied untreated to households in the Rovaniemi area. Read more about our water production here.
The circular economy also extends to wastewater treatment. The Alakorkalo sludge incineration plant is a prime example of this. The plant incinerates sewage sludge, thereby halting the circulation of harmful substances – such as narcotics, pharmaceuticals and microplastics – within the ecosystem.
The heat generated during incineration is utilised for district heating, and the ash is reused, for example, as a raw material in earthworks.
