Neve is modernising the way electricity consumption is measured

Around 32,000 electricity meters will be replaced en masse for customers of Rovaniemen Verkon and Enontekiön Sähkö by the end of 2029. The new meters will enable, for example, more energy-efficient electricity use and consumption monitoring.

Neve is replacing the electricity metering equipment in both its network areas with new remote metering systems that comply with the AMR 2.0 requirements, which came into force on 1 May 2023. The requirements for the new meters include, for example, a more frequent measurement interval, remote readability and remote updatability, as well as the recording of power cuts.

With the replacement of the meters, customers will gain access to a home automation interface, enabling smart and more frequent monitoring and control of electricity consumption. The new metering equipment also facilitates energy-efficient electricity use, which supports Neven’s goals of offering customers sustainable electricity solutions,

“Through the home automation connection, customers can, for example, access their own metering data, which they can then use in their own monitoring system and to manage their electricity consumption in an energy-efficient manner,” explains Mikko Veima, Neven’s Account Manager.

The meter replacement schedule is agreed with each customer

Meter replacements in 2023–2024 will be carried out in both network areas by Ellappi Oy. Before the meter replacement, customers will be contacted by text message or letter, informing them of the schedule for meter replacements by area. A more specific time will generally be agreed with the customer by telephone. According to the network service terms and conditions, electricity users must allow access to the electricity meter for persons authorised by the company, for example for meter reading and replacement.

Meter replacements began in the Rovaniemen Verkko area in September 2023 and will begin in the Enontekiön Sähkö area in spring 2024. 4,500 meters are replaced annually, and all 32,000 meters will have been replaced by the end of 2029. In Rovaniemi, replacements have begun in Viirinkangas and the Industrial Area, from where they will continue towards the city centre.

The meter replacement is free of charge for customers if it is carried out according to the schedule proposed by Neven. If you wish to have the new meter and home automation connection installed earlier, you can order it via Neven’s website for a separate fee. The order form and price list can be found here.
